Tinroof Communications · publishing imprint

A small studio for stories that matter.

Tinroof Communications Ltd is a boutique publishing imprint and creative studio. We work with only a small number of authors at any given time – typically two or three – to bring thoughtful fiction and non-fiction to life and prepare it for print or print-on-demand.

Led by Author-in-Residence & Creative Director, Johan Raubal Based in the United Kingdom, working selectively with authors further afield.

We are not a volume service. We choose projects where there is a genuine connection with the story, and we invest in them fully whilst protecting space for our own writing.

About Tinroof Communications

A deliberately small imprint and studio, working slowly and closely with a handful of writers.

Studio & imprint

Tinroof Communications Ltd is both a publishing imprint and a creative studio. We exist to give time, attention and thoughtful craft to a small number of books rather than chasing scale.

Our work sits somewhere between publishing, editorial partnership and quiet accountability. We work with authors whose stories have weight – whether those are drawn from lived experience, imagined worlds or long practice in a particular field.

Author-in-Residence

The studio is led by Johan Raubal, Author-in-Residence & Creative Director. Tinroof is shaped by an active writing practice as much as by editorial expertise. That is why we keep our commitments small: so we can support others without losing the space to write.

This blend of author perspective and editorial care underpins how we work with every book that carries the Tinroof mark.

How we work with authors

Not a service menu, but a collaborative journey from early idea through to a book ready for print or POD.

Deep editorial partnership

  • Exploring the heart of the story: what it is really about, and why it matters.
  • Developing narrative arc, structure and pacing – for fiction and non-fiction alike.
  • Shaping and re-shaping drafts so they read clearly and honestly.
  • Maintaining the author’s voice rather than imposing a house style.

We work closely and iteratively, with room for reflection as the manuscript evolves.

Creative accountability

  • Regular check-ins to keep the work moving without unnecessary pressure.
  • Gentle deadlines that respect the rest of your life.
  • Support through stuck points, doubt and decision-making.
  • A quiet presence that helps you stay connected to the manuscript.

This is not project management. It is companionship and steadying discipline for a demanding piece of creative work.

Preparing for print & POD

  • Guidance on getting the manuscript into a clean, production-ready state.
  • Advice on layout, interior design and cover specifications.
  • Support with print-on-demand platforms such as KDP or IngramSpark.
  • Troubleshooting the practicalities so the author can stay focused on the work itself.

Selective collaborations

We usually work with no more than two or three authors at a time. When capacity is reached, we will say so clearly. This protects the depth and integrity of every project and keeps space for Tinroof’s own writing and thinking.

We are a good fit for writers who value depth, honesty and a long view over speed and noise.

The Tinroof Communications imprint

A mark used sparingly, for books developed in close collaboration with the studio.

Tinroof Communications is the publishing imprint of Tinroof Communications Ltd. The cat-on-a-roof logo appears on books and projects where the studio has been actively involved in shaping the work – from conceptual development and manuscript crafting through to preparation for print or print-on-demand.

In your first message, it helps if you can share a short description of your project, where you are in the writing process, and what you hope a collaboration with Tinroof might bring.

Capacity & fit

Because we work with very few authors at a time, there will be periods when we are not able to take on new projects. If that is the case when you get in touch, we will tell you plainly rather than over-promising.

We are especially suited to authors who value reflection, emotional honesty and a collaborative process, and who are willing to move at a pace that protects the quality of the work.
